Hispanic Heritage Night

Last Friday, the school had a huge event--Spanish Heritage Night. The teachers and students practiced for months to present a special dance, song, or performance from each class (grades K-6).

Pre-performance jitters!

Jack's class performed a series of children's playground games--in Spanish, of course. It was fun to learn Spanish versions of "London Bridge" and other games.

Looks like he caught Daddy's eye!

Here comes Owen's class. (You can see him in the doorway.) They did a traditional zapateo dance, complete with elaborate costumes. I got to help with rehearsals for the month leading up to the event, and it was wonderful to see the kids pull it off! They practiced SO hard!

Owen had a leadership role, guiding the boys to the next position as the music changed. He took it very seriously!

Here come the ladies for their grand entrance, skirts and dresses swirling!

At the end of the night, the teachers surprised the students by performing their own Latin dance, and then they invited all the students up on the stage for merengue. Our boys loved it. Look at them go!

The kids loved it and they were so proud of themselves. What a wonderful night!
