anniversary in Charlottesville

After our week at the beach, we drove up to Richmond and left the boys with Katie and Andre for two nights. Daniel and I drove an hour west to our old stomping grounds, Charlottesville. It was wonderful to see our old newlywed haunts:

Brix. Now Salt. A delicious sandwich shop out by Monticello and our favorite vineyard, Jefferson Vineyards.

Greenberry Coffee where I studied for the GRE in literature every morning before dragging myself to the job I pretty much hated: being a Spanish/English high school teacher.

The Grounds. We didn't bring the camera but it was fun walking around and admiring the Rotunda, and figuring out which buildings we'd studied in.

Our first duplex house on Stribling, the one where one morning I woke up to find a cow in our front yard. When I called the cops, there was a pause. "Miss, how much did you drink last night"? Clearly a college town.... And also our tiny brick apartment in married student housing, with all the back paths I used to run on, that wind through neighborhoods and up to campus.

New this time around: a lovely cabin in the woods. So charming. Daniel wants to build one now.

14 years. Hard to believe.
