The tonic of wildness

We decided to take the scenic route home and drove through Rocky Mountain National Park, the roof of the Rockies.

Henry David Thoreau writes: “We need the tonic of wildness.... At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.” I think I'd like to name a book that, The Tonic of Wildness. It's an elixir we can't get enough of.

What better place to spend Daniel's birthday? I call him my mountain man. He is at home in the woods and wild places of the world. I love that about him.
