Edinburgh Castle

Jet-lagged but excited to be on solid land.

Pretty much anywhere you go in Old City, you'll be able to look up and see the castle. The first Pictish fort was built out of volanic rock two thousand years ago, and it's been a royal residence since the 11th century.

I didn't get a picture but it was quite a thrill to stand in the small room where Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to James VI in 1566.

Tiny St. Margaret’s Chapel, located inside the castle. (Daniel had to duck to walk in the narrow doorway.) Built in the early 12th century by King David I for his mother St. Margaret, it is the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh.

Of course.

The boys! Jack (9), Owen (7), Tristan (6), and Salvador (1).
