There's nothing like summer camping in Colorado. Snow on the mountains and chilly nights, but plenty of sunshine and fresh clean air.
We took a one-night trip to Rainbow Lakes in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. It's just under 2 hours from our house.
This is one of the five lakes at the top of a short climb.
The kids did a great job hiking the 2.5 miles out and back. Finding one lake after another make it feel like a treasure hunt. Plus there was the fishing motivation.
Here's a video of the view:
Our campsite (back near the trailhead) was right next to a rushing stream that had flooded several of the campsites lower down. (Snow run-off.) The water was so loud we would could barely hear each other.
Just a 24-hour escape to the woods and we came home refreshed. (Despite the lack of sleep due to kids getting sick. Ah, well. It was worth it.)
