world's best cake?

Have you ever read Sweet Paul Magazine? I just learned about it a few weeks ago, and I ordered myself a copy only to dive deep into pages so beautiful and inspiring it's ridiculous. Anyway, one day I got in the mood to try the Norwegian cake Paul claims is the World's Best Cake! It was gorgeous and luscious and definitely worth making, but since Daniel and I both come from a long line of fantastic bakers, it's hard to choose just ONE best cake in the whole wide world.

It reminded us a lot of a German version that Daniel's Omi used to make called Blitztorte. Omi's cake calls for coffee and cinnamon in addition to the almonds so it's more complex, but the meringue topping with crunchy almonds and golden cake are the same. I love that I have the recipe in her handwriting in my recipe binder.

If you like to bake, give this recipe a whirl. It's straightforward, fast, beautiful and yummy.
