I had such a fun birthday last weekend! On Saturday night, we walked to our neighborhood burger place for fried pickles (don't mock; they're SO good), burgers, and fries. They even brought me some fried oreos with a candle. Not sure how I feel about the fried oreos but we had a great time.
The next morning we skipped church and Daniel let me SLEEP IN. That was so heavenly you could have just ended the day right there and I'd have been tickled pink. But no, then came homemade cards, packages from Maryland and Virginia, lots of fresh flowers, a family trip to the Botanic Gardens, lots of strong English tea, a beautiful Honey Bee cake, and lounging in our backyard soaking up the spring sunshine.
Daniel and the boys gave me a beautiful turquoise locket with pictures of the boys inside. The chain has little bird and flower charms, which Owen assured me they chose because they know Grandma calls me the Blue Bird, plus it's obvious I love flowers.
After dinner, Daniel took me Latin dancing with some friends. I'd been so lazy all day I was a little pressed for time getting ready. Thus the giant curlers and no makeup.

What a wonderful day! I am so grateful for my sweet family, and for all the family and friends who make life so precious. xo

I'm thinking of March 8 a few years ago when I was going to go to work early on a cold spring day, so went to bed early. I was awakened by mom making a bit of noise in the bathroom, getting ready for something a few minutes before sunrise - during those minutes when it's kinda light, but still kinda dark outside before the sun comes out. "It's happening," she said. Like a fool I said, "what's happening." "I'm having our baby today." Again, like an idiot, I thought we can't have a baby today, I need to go to work. So, I needed a sign. So over to the window I went and looked out on to a fresh layer of snow (which meant there would be no work today) and there right in front of our window were two small flowers pocking out of the snow as beautiful as could be. My mind was adjusted and what a day it was. It was the day you came. When our first baby girl came. And, what a life it has been. Full of blessings, wonder, change, pride, and a hundred more words, phrases, paragraphs, books full of wonder and beauty. Here I am tonight, remembering and feeling blessed and thrilled with the past and the future of your life.
Love
Daddy
