Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is a poignant holiday in my family. It's the day my parents got the first hint that David's lungs were starting to improve after his spinal stroke on February 6, 1996. Up until that point the doctors weren't sure he'd make it. He was 14.

So I always feel especially grateful on Valentine's Day, for the people in my life and what's really important: loving them well.

The boys and I had a fun time making these salt dough ornaments, scented with rosewater and dried rose blossoms. The rose blossoms didn't really stick to the ornaments and after baking, the rose fragrance pretty much disappeared. And the kids only stayed interested for about 20 minutes, leaving me to finish up. But it was a sweet project while it lasted.

It would be fun to make these for Christmas, wouldn't it?
